🎨 PREPARE YOUR BAND MERCHANDISE ARTWORK FOR PRINTING
A sharp, vibrant print starts with a good-quality file. Follow these three simple checks before uploading your artwork or photo to avoid the most common printing problems. For more detailed preparation advice, see our artwork guidelines.
USE A HIGH-DEFINITION FILE
Use the original high-resolution artwork or photograph wherever possible. Avoid screenshots, thumbnails and images copied from social media, as these can produce a blurred or pixelated print when enlarged.
REMOVE BACKGROUNDS
Any white or coloured background in your file will normally be included in the finished print. Supply a transparent PNG if you want only the logo or artwork printed. Photographs can retain their full background if it's part of the design.
CHOOSE THE RIGHT FILE FORMAT
A high-resolution PNG works for most DTG printing and supports a transparent background. For logos and graphic artwork, an original vector file such as SVG, PDF, or AI may provide the sharpest result because it can be resized without losing quality.
NEED HELP WITH YOUR BAND MERCH OR ARTWORK?
🎸 BAND MERCHANDISE PRINTING: FAQs
Practical answers about designing, ordering and planning custom merchandise for bands, artists and musicians.
🎨 How do I create and order custom band merchandise?
Choose the product you want to personalise, then click the Customise button on the product page. Our online designer lets you upload your band artwork or logo, add text and position the design on the garment before you place your order.
Alternatively, contact our customer care team with your artwork and order requirements. We can help set up your design, send you a digital mock-up for approval and then email you an invoice containing a secure payment link.
👕 Which garments are best for band merchandise?
The best garment depends on your audience, target selling price and the margin you need. An established band with fans willing to pay more may choose premium organic T-shirts, while a newer band may prefer conventional cotton garments that let you sell the finished merchandise at a more accessible price.
Also consider the fit, fabric weight, available colours and how the garment complements your artwork. Our guide to the best fabrics for DTG printing explains how garment construction and fabric composition can affect the finished print.
🧪 Can I order a band T-shirt sample before placing a larger order?
Yes. We have no minimum order, so you can order one band T-shirt sample to check the garment, fit, colour and finished print before committing to a larger quantity.
Once you are happy with the result, you can place a larger order and take advantage of our quantity-based print discounts. Sampling is especially useful when testing a new design or preparing your first merchandise range. Our guide to common T-shirt design mistakes explains why checking a sample can prevent costly problems later.
📦 Can I mix T-shirts, hoodies, sizes and colours in one band merch order?
Yes. You can combine different garment types, colours and sizes within the same band merchandise order. Each printed garment contributes towards the relevant quantity, so a mixed order can still qualify for quantity-based savings.
This allows you to create a varied merchandise range without ordering the same T-shirt, hoodie or sweatshirt in every size and colour.
💷 How is custom band merchandise priced?
The total price includes the garment cost shown on the website and the printing cost at each location. A design printed on the front counts as one print, while designs printed on both the front and back count as two prints per garment.
We calculate quantity discounts based on the number of prints, not the number of garments. For example, 25 T-shirts printed on both sides would involve 50 prints. Larger print quantities receive lower print rates, so contact our team for an accurate quotation if you are planning a substantial or mixed order.
📊 How much band merchandise should we order for our first gig or tour?
Start by showing your proposed designs or printed samples to your audience through social media, mailing lists and other band channels. Likes and comments can indicate interest, but paid pre-orders provide a much stronger indication of genuine demand.
Use confirmed pre-orders to set an initial quantity, then add a sensible amount of stock for gig sales. If you have sold merchandise previously, combine this information with your past sales figures, popular sizes and the expected audience at each venue. A smaller first run reduces the risk of being left with unsuitable stock, and you can reorder successful designs.
🏷️ How should we price band merchandise for resale?
Start with the total cost to produce each item, including the garment, printing, packaging, payment fees and any selling or venue costs. Then set a retail price that gives you a suitable profit while remaining realistic for your audience.
A profit margin of about 30–50% is a useful starting range, depending on the garment, sales channel and perceived value of the design. Premium garments, limited-edition artwork, and established bands may support higher prices, while a newer band may prefer a more accessible price to test demand. Read our guide to pricing custom T-shirts for profit for a more detailed breakdown.
🖨️ Can band artwork be printed on both the front and back?
Yes. You can print band artwork on the front, back or both sides of a suitable garment. A front print and a back print are treated as two separate print locations and both contribute towards the print quantity used to calculate your discount.
The available print area depends on the garment and its size. Keep important text, logos and artwork within the printable area shown in the online designer or ask our team to check the proposed placement when arranging an assisted order.
🔍 Will we receive a proof before our band merchandise is printed?
If you order through our online designer, the design displayed in the customiser acts as your visual proof. You are responsible for checking the artwork, position, size, spelling and garment choices before completing the order.
If you place your order through our customer care team, we will send you a digital mock-up for approval before the merchandise enters production. We will begin printing once you confirm you are happy with the proposed layout.
✏️ Can you help prepare or improve our band artwork?
Yes. We can usually help with basic adjustments, such as positioning artwork, removing a simple background or making minor alterations, at no additional charge.
More extensive changes, recreating missing artwork or improving a low-resolution image may require our chargeable graphic-design service. If you are unsure whether your file is ready for printing, send it to our customer care team so we can inspect it and explain what work may be required.
📅 How far in advance should we order band merch for a gig or tour?
We recommend beginning the order process at least four weeks before your first gig or tour date. Our usual production time is approximately 5–10 working days, but turnaround can vary during busy periods such as summer and the Christmas season.
Allow additional time to approve artwork, confirm garment sizes and colours, resolve any file-quality issues, and deliver the finished order. Tell our team your required date before ordering so we can confirm whether the schedule is achievable.
🔁 Can we reorder band merchandise using a previous design?
Yes. Contact our customer care team and ask us to use the same artwork and print setup as your previous band merchandise order. If possible, provide the original order number so we can locate the correct details.
We will confirm current garment availability, colours, sizes and pricing before processing the reorder. If a particular product is no longer available, we can help you choose the closest suitable alternative.
©️ Can I print album artwork, photographs or another artist’s design?
You can print album artwork, photographs, logos and illustrations that you created or have permission to reproduce. If another photographer, illustrator, designer, record label or artist owns the work, you must obtain the necessary permission or licence before asking us to print it.
We cannot reproduce copyrighted artwork, photographs, logos or other protected material when the customer does not hold the relevant rights. If ownership is unclear, check with the original creator or rights holder before placing the order.
🧺 How should printed band T-shirts be washed?
Turn printed garments inside out and wash them on a cool cycle at approximately 30°C. Avoid bleach and harsh detergents, and air-dry the garments instead of using a tumble dryer.
If ironing is necessary, keep the garment inside out and never place the iron directly over the printed area. Following these instructions will help protect both the garment and the print. For more information, see our guide to T-shirt print durability and garment care.
📥 Can I supply my own garments for band merchandise printing?
No. We do not accept customer-supplied garments for band merchandise printing. We print only on garments from our own tested product range.
Fabric composition, surface texture and garment construction can all affect print quality, colour reproduction and wash durability. Supplying the garments ourselves allows us to maintain a consistent standard and provide appropriate support if a production problem occurs.
