Artwork Guidelines

🎨 Artwork Guidelines

Getting your designs print-ready β€” the easy way.

We want your designs to look their absolute best when printed. That all starts with submitting the right kind of artwork. Follow this guide to make sure your file is crisp, clear, and perfect for our process β€” whether you're printing a single t-shirt, a whole collection, or custom mugs.

πŸ” Resolution: Start With a Sharp Image

Image resolution is everything when it comes to printing. A pixelated or blurry file can't be fixed at the print stage β€” so always upload high-resolution artwork at 300 DPI (dots per inch) at actual print size.

DTG Printing

🌈 Colour Mode: DTG Printing & Ink Channels

Our advanced Kornit Atlas printers use a hybrid CMYKRGB ink channel β€” meaning you can submit files using the RGB colour mode for vibrant, accurate results.

πŸ–¨οΈ DTG (Direct to Garment) printing allows for full-colour artwork β€” there’s no limit to how many colours you can use. Gradients, shading, and photographic detail? All good!

πŸ“ File Format: PNG with Transparent Background

For best results, always upload your artwork as a .PNG file with a transparent background. This ensures your design prints cleanly, with no unwanted white boxes or edges.

🧡 Embroidery Artwork

Everything you need to make your stitched designs stand out.

Even though embroidery uses stitches instead of ink, your design file still needs to be high-resolution (300 dpi) so we can digitise it properly.

Our embroidery service to allow up to 6 colours per design, giving you access to a 32-colour thread palette. That means you can get seriously creative with your designs β€” without compromising on quality.

🎨 Keep the Detail

Embroidery looks best when the details are bold and clean. To avoid threads getting lost in the fabric:

βœ… Use a minimum line width of 0.125 cm for flat embroidery.
βœ… For text, we recommend a minimum letter height of 0.5 cm. (for the Best Result 2 cm.)
βœ‚οΈ Super-fine lines or tiny type can result in uneven, messy stitching β€” best avoided!

Embroidery Area (standard):

πŸ“ Small: 100 Γ— 100 mm

🧠 Tip: Keep text bold and artwork simple for the cleanest stitch results..

🚫 Avoid Negative Space

We recommend filling all areas of your design with solid colour instead of relying on the garment colour to show through. For example:

Embroidering on a black hoodie? Don’t leave letters β€œcut out” in black β€” fill them in with white or another colour to ensure they’re legible and polished.

Negative space can often lead to patchy, unfinished results. Solid shapes = solid finish.

❓Artwork FAQs

Everything you need to know to get your artwork print-ready β€” crisp, clean, and mistake-free.

πŸ–ΌοΈ What resolution should my artwork be?

Your artwork should be 300 DPI at actual print size to ensure it prints clearly and without pixelation. Anything lower may result in blurry or fuzzy results.

πŸ‘‰ Learn more about image resolution and quality

🧠 I’m not sure what DPI means β€” can you help?

Definitely. DPI stands for dots per inch β€” it’s a measure of image resolution. For a sharp, professional-looking print, aim for 300 DPI at the size you want it printed.

πŸ‘‰ Read our full guide to image resolution here.

πŸ“ What size should my artwork be?

We recommend uploading your artwork as a .PNG file with a transparent background. This ensures your design prints cleanly without any unwanted white boxes around it.

βœ”οΈ PNG format
βœ”οΈ Transparent background

πŸŽ›οΈ Should I use RGB or CMYK for colour mode?

For the most accurate and vibrant colours, use RGB mode. Our state-of-the-art Kornit Atlas printers are optimised for hybrid CMYKRGB ink channels, giving your design full-colour depth.

🎨 Can I use as many colours as I want?

Yes! For DTG (Direct to Garment) printing, there’s no colour limit β€” you can use full gradients, shading, and photographic images. Just make sure your file is in RGB colour mode so our printers can deliver the most vibrant result.

πŸ“Έ Can I submit photographic designs or gradients?

Yes! DTG printing allows for full-colour, detailed artwork β€” including gradients, shading, and photographic imagery. Just make sure it's in high resolution.

πŸ“ What are the standard artwork sizes?

Sizes vary depending on the product. For example:

πŸ‘• T-Shirts & Sweatshirts – 380 Γ— 480 mm

Anything outside the dotted guidelines on our design templates won’t be printed. Always keep your design within the dotted area to ensure it appears exactly as you expect.

🧡 How is embroidery artwork different from print artwork?
