The University of Manchester is located in central Manchester on Oxford Road, next to the Victoria Memorial Museum. It has a red brick design with a central clock tower. It was founded in 1851 as Owens College and is the third-oldest higher education institution in the UK. The university rebranded itself to be more inclusive and reflect its diverse community of students, staff and alumni.Word Class Library
The University of Manchester is a beautiful place. The main library is situated on the university's Oxford Road campus, with its entrance on Burlington Street. There are also ten other library locations; eight are on the university's campus, the John Rylands Library is on Deansgate, as well as the Ahmed Iqbal Ullah Race Relations Resource Centre is inside Manchester Central Library. The library also has an extensive collection of rare books and manuscripts, including Sir Isaac Newton's and James Joyce's papers.

The University of Manchester has five National Research Libraries and one of the best-resourced academic libraries in the country, with over four million printed books and manuscripts, over 50,000 unique electronic journals, 800,000 electronic books, and several hundred databases. Several specialised libraries on campus provide subject-specific and tailored services.
The John Rylands Research Institute and Library, a magnificent neo-Gothic structure housing some of the world's finest collections of rare books and manuscripts, also provides students with a vast array of resources. It is also a thriving visitor attraction, hosting various free exhibitions and events throughout the year.

The Student Life
The University of Manchester Students' Union is the 'largest students union' in the UK.
"It represents students at the University of Manchester. It arose from the merger of the UMIST Students' Association (USA) and the University Of Manchester Union (UMU) on October 1, 2004, when the parent organisations (UMIST and the Victoria University of Manchester) merged."
At the University of Manchester, students have the opportunity to work on a range of projects and gain experience that will help them get their foot in the door of any industry.
